The quilt of Gee's Bend are the creation of a community of women from a small black rural town in Gee's Bend, Alabama. For well over a century, the women have produced hundreds of distinctive quilts. Their work reflects a synthesis of several cultures, a combination of African, Native American and European traditions. Each generation adds their own works and passes them on to their descendants.
